8 Jul 2020The Ministry of National Assets of Chile has unveiled the result of the competitive tender for development rights for renewable projects in three regions of the country, namely Tarapacá, Antofagasta and Atacama, for which 40-year tenancy agreements are to be signed. A total of 11 utility-scale renewable projects with a combined capacity of 2.6 GW capacity were selected. The winning bidders include EDF, Engie and Enel, as well as SolarPack, Solarcentury, Sonnedix, Caldera Solar and CopiapoEnergíaSolar.

7 Jul 2020The Ukrainian parliament has approved a draft law on feed-in-tariff (FiTs) reductions for renewable power generation. FiTs will be cut by 15% for solar parks and by 7.5% for wind parks commissioned between 2015 and 2019 and by 2.5% for both types of projects commissioned as of 1 January 2020.

Australia approves Iberdrola’s takeover of renewable producer Infigen
8 Jul 2020The Foreign Investment Review Board (FIRB) of Australia has approved the proposed acquisition of Infigen Energy, the country’s largest renewable producer, by the Spanish energy group Iberdrola. The Australian company owns 670 MW of wind power capacity and has 268 MW of highly valued firming assets and an additional 246 MW of contracted renewable capacity through offtake power purchase agreements (PPAs). It also has more than 1 GW of projects under development.

7 Jul 2020Adani Transmission Ltd (ATL) has signed an agreement with Kalpataru Power Transmission Ltd (KPTL) to buy Alipurduar Transmission, which operates transmission lines aggregating to around 650 km in West Bengal and Bihar (eastern India) for INR12.9bn (US$172m). With this acquisition, the cumulative network of ATL will reach more than 15,400 km, out of which more than 12,200 km (including this asset) is operational and more than 3,200 km is under various stages of execution.

Energy Transfer forced to shut down the Dakota Access oil pipeline (US)
8 Jul 2020The District Court for the District of Colombia (United States) has ordered Energy Transfer shut the 570,000 bbl/d Dakota Access pipeline, which carries crude oil from Bakken and Three Forks oil production areas in North Dakota to Pakota in Illinois. According to the ruling, the US Army Corps of Engineers failed to produce an adequate Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the project.

TAQA reaches financial close for 2.8 GW Fujairah F3 CCGT project (UAE)
8 Jul 2020The Abu Dhabi National Energy Company (TAQA) has reached financial close for the 2.4 GW CCGT Fujairah F3 IPP project in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), following the signing of the power purchase agreement (PPA) and shareholder’s agreement between Abu Dhabi Power Corporation (ADPower), Emirates Water and Electricity Company (EWEC), Mubadala Investment Company and Marubeni (Japan).

8 Jul 2020The Supreme Court of Finland has upheld approval of Valorem’s 300 MW wind project in the west of the country. The wind project, which represents an investment of €300m, is jointly developed by the French renewable company Valorem and the Finnish construction company Megatuuli. Once commissioned in 2024, it will produce 1 TWh/year.
Valorem is increasing its presence in Finland, where several projects are currently under development for the creation of a portfolio with a capacity of approximately 600 MW. The company intends to have a portfolio of 1 GW under development by end-2021.

8 Jul 2020The government of Pakistan and the Chinese state-owned Gezhouba Group have signed an agreement to build the 700 MW Azad Pattan hydropower project on the Jhelum River in Azad Kashmir under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) framework. The project will require a US$1.5bn investment and is expected to be commissioned in 2026, when it should generate 3.3 TWh/year.
