Denmark officially launches its third technology-neutral tender

The Danish Energy Agency has officially launched its third technology-neutral tender, open to solar photovoltaic, onshore wind, offshore wind, wave power and hydropower (Denmark). The country will award up to DKK1.2bn (€160m) to back 428 MW of renewable energy projects for a period of 20 years under a contract for difference (CfD) mechanism. The bidding price is capped at DKK 2.5c/kWh (€0.4c/kWh).
Ecuador plans to tender an extra 1.4 GW of renewables until 2031

Ecuador has updated its 2031 electricity master plan. The country added an extra 1,440 MW of non-conventional energy capacity, which would come from small hydro, wind, solar and biomass. The additional capacity, which will be tendered in public competitions, is expected to mobilise US$2.2bn of private capital. The projects will be divided into four blocks with the first 500 MW expected to enter operations by 2024.
Ecuador’s total capacity reached 8.8 GW by end-2020, with 58% of hydro and 31% of oil.
Nigeria transforms into law the Petroleum Industry Bill

The Nigerian president has signed into law the Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB) 2021, which provides legal, governance, regulatory and fiscal framework for the oil sector (Nigeria). The text was previously approved by the National Assembly and the Senate. The country has been seeking to pass the bill since 2008 but failed to do it in three occasions: 2009, 2012 and 2018.

Australia’s Santos awards contract for the FPSO facility for the Dorado project

Santos has awarded the FEED contract for the Floating Production, Storage and Offloading (FPSO) facility for the Dorado project, in the Bedout Sub-basin, offshore Western Australia, to Altera Infrastructure (Altera). The contract comprises engineering, procurement, construction, installation, commissioning and testing of the FPSO facility.
Qatar Petroleum selects Técnicas Reunidas for the North Field LNG (Qatar)

Qatar Petroleum has awarded a engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract for its North Field LNG Expansion Project to Técnicas Reunidas (Qatar). The company will act as the EPC contractor for the expansion of existing liquid products (condensate, propane and butane) storage and loading facilities and the expansion of import facilities for Mono-Ethylene Glycol within Ras Laffan Industrial City, as well as other ancillary facilities and pipelines serving the North Field LNG Expansion Project.

The US seeks public input on a 1 GW Lava Ridge wind project in Idaho

The US Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is seeking public input on the 1,000 MW Lava Ridge onshore wind project, a commercial-scale wind plant that is proposed to be built on BLM-managed public land in southern Idaho, approximately 25 miles (40 km) northeast of Twin Falls. The project, developed by Magic Valley Energy, will include up to 400 wind turbines, 34 miles (55 km) of 230 kV transmission lines, 18 miles (29 km) of 500 kV transmission lines and a battery energy storage system (BESS).
Shannon LNG seeks approval to build a 650 MW gas-fired plant in Ireland

Shannon LNG will seek a 10-year planning permission from Ireland’s national independent planning body An Bord Pleanála to build a 650 MW gas-fired plant, an LNG terminal and BESS to store up to 120 MW of power in Ballylongford on the Shannon Estuary. The LNG import terminal will be able to supply up to 22.6 mcm/d of natural gas. The project will cost €650m.
ACWA Power commissions a 300 MW solar project in Dubai (UAE)

ACWA Power has officially inaugurated the 300 MW first stage of the 900 MW Shuaa Energy 3 PSC, i.e. the fifth phase of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum CSP power plant in Dubai (United Arab Emirates).
India’s SECI awards 1.3 GW of solar-wind hybrid power projects

The Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) awarded 1,350 MW as part of the Tranche IV auction for 1,200 MW interstate transmissions system (ISTS)-connected wind-solar hybrid power projects on a build, own and operated basis (India). 450 MW were awarded to Ayana Renewables, 450 MW to NTPC and 150 MW to NLC India at a tariff of INR2.34/kWh (US$3.2c/kWh). In addition, Azure Power won another 300 MW at INR2.35/kWh (US$3.2c/kWh).
The discovered tariff of this auction is 3% lower than the lowest bid in the wind-solar hybrid auction held in December 2020.
