Fourth Meeting of the Open-ended Committee of Permanent Representatives to UNEP
8-10 March 2019 | Nairobi, Kenya

Delegates at the fourth meeting of the Open-Ended Committee of Permanent Representatives (OECPR-4) worked throughout the weekend to negotiate draft resolutions and forward clean text for adoption at the fourth session of the UN Environment Assembly (UNEA-4). In the breezeways, our Earth Negotiations Bulletin team notes that negotiators did not get much of a chance to catch up on sleep over the weekend, and that white tents and marquees sprouted around the UNEP headquarters grounds in preparation for the arrival of six Heads of State or Government, more than 80 environmental ministers, and around 3,000 participants on Monday. UN Science-Policy-Business Forum – Second Global Session
9-10 March 2019 | Nairobi, Kenya

Participants at the second global session of the UN Science-Policy-Business Forum on the Environment discussed issues including: making trade a positive force in the world; the contribution of new policies and technologies in combating lead; putting the world on a safe path to meet the challenge of limiting global warming to 1.5°C; Earth observations and the role of citizen science; the role of South-South Cooperation in attaining clean and affordable energy in Africa; alternatives to plastics – current challenges and future vision; innovative technologies and approaches in monitoring the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs); sustainable water and waste management in developing cities; and avoidance of global warming through clean and efficient cooling innovations. The Forum’s deliberations will feed into the fourth session of the UN Environment Assembly (UNEA-4). Our full summary of the Forum will be available on Wednesday, 13 March.
