SSE Retail abandons merger plans with Npower (Innogy) in the UK
British energy supplier SSE Retail has scrapped its merger plans with Npower (a subsidiary of Innogy), considering that the proposed transaction was not in the best interests of its shareholders or customers, even though it was provisionally cleared by the United Kingdom Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) in September 2018. Eni sells 35% stake in Area 1 offshore oil block offshore Mexico
Italian oil and gas company Eni has agreed to sell a 35% participating interest in Area 1, offshore Mexico, to Qatar’s state-run energy company Qatar Petroleum. The transaction is subject to the approval of the Mexican authorities. If the deal comes true, Eni will remain the operator with a 65% interest, while Qatar Petroleum will own 35% in the project. Norwegian oil regulator clears Norne FPSO life extension to 2036
The Norwegian Petroleum Safety Authority (PSA) has given its consent to the state-run energy company Equinor to extend the ongoing operations of the Norne floating production, storage and offloading unit (FPSO) and associated facilities in the Norwegian sea until the end of 2036. Equinor is the operator of the Norne field, which entered production in 1997 and produces mostly oil. Read more

South Pars gas production should reach 630 mcm/d in March 2019 (Iran)
Iran’s state-run Pars Oil and Gas Company (POGC) forecasts that the gas production of the South Pars offshore gas field will reach over 630 mcm/d by the end of March 2019, when all the project’s remaining phases are completed. The current production level stands at 580 mcm/d and most of the phases are fully operational at the moment. Read more

Turkish nuclear regulator clears construction of Akkuyu-2 reactor
The Turkish Atomic Energy Authority (TAEK) has issued a limited work permit to construct the second 1,200 MW unit of the 4,800 MW Akkuyu nuclear power plant after a thorough review and assessment of the package of the documents submitted by the Russian contractor Rosatom, including a preliminary safety analysis report and a probabilistic safety analysis of the plant. Annova LNG export project in Texas gets positive FERC draft EIS (US)
Annova LNG’s proposed Brownsville LNG export project in Texas has been granted a draft environmental impact statement (EIS) by the United States Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC).
