TechnipFMC wins US$7.6bn EPC contract for the Arctic LNG 2 project (Russia)

Novatek has awarded an Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contract worth US$7.6bn to TechnipFMC for the 19.6 Mt/year Arctic LNG 2 project located in the Gydan peninsula in West Siberia, Russia. TechnipFMC will execute this project under a lump sum and reimbursable basis and the EPC contract will include the three 6.6 Mt/year LNG trains and associated topsides.

The LNG project is developed by Novatek (60% stake in the project), with Total, CNOOC, CNPC and Japan Arctic LNG holding 10% each. The first train is expected to be commissioned in 2023. The liquefaction plant will be fed by output from the Utrenneye field in the hydrocarbon-rich Gydan peninsula in the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous District (Russia). Reserves are estimated at 1,150-2,000 bcm of gas and 60-105 Mt of liquids.

TEPCO plans to decommission the Fukushima Daini nuclear power plant (Japan)
TEPCO plans to decommission its 4,268 MW Fukushima Daini nuclear power plant, located near the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant, where three reactors melted down in March 2011, and will submit the proposition to its board. The Fukushima Daini nuclear power plant has been mothballed since the disaster even if it was not damaged by the earthquake and tsunami.

Forecasts

India expects coal-fired capacity to increase by 43 GW by 2027 (India)
According to the Indian Power and New and Renewable Energy Ministry, coal is expected to remain the largest source of energy for power generation in India for the next decade.
