Agreement signed for US$350m Tema LNG regasification project (Ghana)

Tema LNG terminal Company, an affiliate of the private equity fund Helios Investment Partners, has signed an agreement with China Harbour Engineering Company for the construction of a LNG regasification terminal in the city of Tema (Ghana). The construction will be completed in 18 months and once built, the facility would supply gas to Ghana’s gas-fired power plant projects, of which in particular the 400 MW Bridge power project which is currently being built in Tema as well.

The project will be supported by a 12-year gas supply agreement between Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) and Rosneft which was signed in May 2018. Rosneft will supply 1.7 Mt/year of LNG to GNPC. The terminal will then be transferred to GNPC and the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) after the 12-year initial period..

The Tema facilities include a floating regasification barge (FSRU), floating storage unit and a pipeline, which will be connected to the domestic grid. The FSRU will be provided by the Höegh LNG through a 20-year agreement with Quantum Power Ghana Gas.

Angola lists 54 subsidiaries of state-run Sonangol for privatization

Angolan state-held oil and gas company Sonangol has submitted to the Ministry of Mining Resources and Oil a list of 54 affiliates in its group that are ready to be privatized. They account for approximately one third of the company and include assets that do not fit the company’s main objective.

Sinopec’s gas sales went up by 13% in first seven months of 2018 (China)

China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation (Sinopec) sold 16.3 bcm of gas during the first seven months of 2018, which represents a 13.4% increase compared with the same period of last year while the share of LNG imports in the total reached 37%. Besides, the company plans to boost spot LNG purchases in order to prepare for the winter peak consumption period.

Bangladesh mulls over gas price hikes amongst rising LNG imports

In response to the rising cost of LNG imports, the Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) is planning to increase gas prices by 93% for the industry and by 25% for the compressed natural gas (CNG) sectors. The brunt of the proposed price hikes are expected to be borne by the fertiliser and power sectors with planned increases of 372% and 206%, respectively.
